After graduating with a theatre degree from Mankato State University in ‘89, Greta moved to New York City in 1991. She soon began touring and performing with regional theatres across the country in a wide variety of roles. Greta has been a familiar face in the Twin Cities since 1996, where she still resides today.
A versatile performer and writer, Greta bought her first guitar in 1991 and started writing comic songs. In 1995 she recorded “Some of My Songs by Greta”. Shortly thereafter she began to explore sketch comedy as a company member of Dudley Riggs Brave New Workshop, where she received much acclaim for her performance of “The Mosquito.” Greta went on to spend four years with the Minneapolis production of TONY AND TINA’S WEDDING, to appear in the world premiere of the musical BINGO at the Ordway, and to become the original Mavis in the hit musical CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES.
In 1997, Greta began performing with her sister as “the Silly Sisters.” For 10 years they appeared at libraries, schools and museums, and created original family-friendly programs for corporations. In 2006 Greta continued her fondness for alliteration by forming “the Looney Lutherans.” The trio continues to perform today.
In 1999 Greta created her first one-woman show, I AM BECOMING, where she made an amazing transformation into seven distinct characters before the eyes of the audience. That same year she returned to the stage with an assortment of new characters in GRETA! STILL BECOMING! In the Spring of 2007, she combined the best of those performances to create a full-length one woman show that had audiences raving.
Some of her memorable characters occasionally pop up as members of GIRL WITH GUITAR, her company that provides interactive entertainment to a corporate audience. Together with some of the Twin Cities premier actor/improvisers, GIRL WITH GUITAR creates original songs and sketches for company parties and events.
When not performing on stage, Greta also finds time to travel the country as a motivational speaker and corporate trainer, to serve as a scriptwriter for a variety of projects, and appears regularly in television and radio ads.
